Your Collared Blues (not to be confused with Collard Greens)

We decided to have lunch at the mall this weekend, which is something we never do, but it was nice to get out of the house. When I was ordering food for my husband Rob and our sons, I had my 4 year old with me while my 2 year old and husband saved a table for us (and then I went to get my food afterwards). Rob saw two young ladies taking photos of me and he was laughing. I had no idea it was happening, but I was wearing what you’re about to see in these photos and he saw that they really liked my dress and were trying to hide that they were taking photos of me. Honestly, if anyone ever sees me, ask to take a photo. I am not a shy person at ALL. We live near a very busy area and a very busy mall so with all the people around, it is hard to know what anyone is doing!
I think I was 6’1″ with these shoes on!
Yes I’m a sucker for Sailor collars
Rob took these photos of me while standing outside of our car down a road that still has some flooding from a month ago! He likes taking shots of me in between times that I’m prepared, just because it’s enjoyable for him, I suppose. It did cross my mind that I would have swam in that polluted water because I love mud if I was in a different outfit!!!

I wore my hair like this at church the following day too, and a handful of people didn’t know if it was a headband or my real hair. Truth is, I’ve been doing this with my hair since I was 15. So yes, it’s my hair and is extremely simple to do if your hair is long enough to wrap around from one side to the other (behind one ear to the other ear, then bobby pin it). I got the idea from watching too much Ever After, which I saw in theatres at 15 (or maybe I was 14?). I still do about 3 other hairstyles from that film.
I don’t know how you girls who wear skirts shorter than this can do so, since it was windy out and I wear slips and petticoats under all my outfits as it is. I can’t imagine how uncomfortable that is to hold down skirts or bend over and needing to do so really carefully. This is the shortest I go outside of the bedroom (which I know is probably considered long to a lot of you)!
OUTFIT DETAILS:
Vintage Dress (assuming late 70s/early 80s): Kitten Paws Vintage
Shoes: Modcloth
Belt: don’t recall
socks: Target
Leto eating Fried Shrimp at the mall. He likes it with ketchup.
Micah reaching for a french fry, his favorite food.
This is Rob (on a different day eating a hotdog, but he ate one at the mall too so I felt like posting it because of that. This was when we were visiting my friend Lynsie posted two outfits ago)
My boys hugging. Grilled cheese unites them always.
Leto wanted me to show you his drawing of Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper and their two kids  (they are the blotchy things between them) from the Blue Clues show. He actually draws this on a regular basis and it looks better every time (this was his first time drawing it though on a magnadoodle type of thing).

  1. Your hair is so pretty! I'll have to try that braided headband trick sometime, it looks so cute. That's funny those girls were taking your picture, but not at all surprising– that dress is truly amazing! It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland.

  2. I thought this shorter skirt was rare for you! I agree though, I am never comfortable in short skirts so I don't often wear them. I always pick comfort over fashion! I love this blue on you, it is just so striking on you!

  3. You always look so lovely, it's been a while since I have been blog reading and thought I would stop by for a visit. Funny girls taking pics of you, I had a girl (probably about 19) that was with her mom on the bus and the girl kept taking pics of me with her phone (she was trying to not be obvious about it but I could see her doing it!!!), I was wearing my hair in victory rolls with a 1940's dress on (this was a couple years ago now). She had on jeans and a tee shirt so I was really curious what the appeal of my ensemble was to her?

  4. This dress is heaven. I live in NYC and I'm finding it impossible to find flawless vintage dresses like this…or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places.I wear short hems sometimes though my mom disapproves πŸ˜€ But I can't help but feel conspicuous. Lately, though, I've preferred longer hemlines over short. I don't know why, but I find it more interesting. 50's style all the way!

  5. I love the effect of this outfit, the colors in particular. I'm glad you wore it and commented on how it felt – here's from one 5'9" girl to another! I usually wear skirts that hit just below the knee; it's by far the most flattering length on me. But sometimes I wear some slightly shorter. I think 4-6" above my knee is about as short as I've worn, and yep, I'm pretty conscious of it all day. Mostly I wear them with tights or leggings, which helps a lot. I'm careful about the wind, too (it's usually windy where I am) and am careful about material and cut on especially windy days.

  6. I'd probably be sneaking photos of you if I saw you in real life too ;)Also, your hair has definitely inspired me to try the braid headband. My problem is that I think my hair is slippery or something because it doesn't hold clips or bobby pins too well but we'll see how it goes!

  7. Love love love the socks with the wedges. Super cute. And I've never been told I looked like her before, but wow! Thank you! So sweet and a huge compliment. : ) Have a blessed day.

  8. Pretty dress I love blue with white accents. I totally know how you feel about things being too short. I do not wear short dresses either. If they are a little shorter than I like I pair them with leggings or skinny jeans.

  9. I LOVE this dress—the color AND the collar! It's one of the prettiest dresses I've seen in a while! That is funny about the girls taking photos! I don't really like candid photos on me, so yes, I'd prefer people asking too. Your shoes are cute. You mentioned that this must be the shortest dress you've had on outside the house in a while. Those might be the tallest heels I've seen you wear on your blog! It must've been SO long since I've been here (haha, of course relatively) because you have bangs now! I like them.Your kids are cute as always. Leto's hair looks cool and different from when I last saw his photo.

  10. What an adorable dress! You look like Alice! I love that you were inspired to do you hair like that from Ever After. I haven't watched that movie in a long time but I always used to!

  11. This dress was made for you…just beautiful on you. Color, style and you look gorgeous…Dawn Suitcase Vignettes…your family is very sweet in the photos.

  12. awwww your boys cuddling, so cute! I only wear super short skirts with opaque tights or even culottes underneath, looks like a slip but allows more practical coverage. Or in a heavier fabric of course, I HATE being scared my skirt will blow up!you look like a disney princess with that hair and dress, beautiful πŸ™‚

  13. Aww! That is so sweet that they were trying to take pics of you! I love the light blue on you, perfect for your skin & eyes pretty lady!I like my dresses to be a little above the knee as well when I am going without tights. I wear really short things with tights, and I always wear shorts under because I have been known to fall on my butt!!Your kids are just so effing adorable. I need to take pics of my baby brother liam for you, he looks cute like your boys, only he is crazy!

  14. hmmmm. French fries are one of my favorite foods, too. ;)You look lovely in this outfit! Love the sailor collar and the SHOES are amazing. You pull off the socks with heels look so well. I always try to…but I fear that my legs are not long enough. 😦

  15. Pregnancy has made me LOVE french fries and I hate that it is one of my cravings! I try to avoid seeing them or being around them because I know I will want them. :)I love the dress and who cares if you are 6'1 in the shoes….you look gorgeous!

  16. You look lovely, Victoria. You seem like such a good wife and mother. And I appreciate the fact that you always strive to share your thoughts in a Christ like manner. Also, yay for homeschooling! It's one of the best decisions i've made for my children, even on the difficult days it's SO worth it πŸ™‚
