“The voice of my beloved! Behold, he comes, leaping over the mountains, bounding over the hills.” -Song of Solomon 2:8

ukethumb9Some of you may remember that I won a contest through Fleet Collection back in October. I received this dress from them  (I love winning free things)! I like the dress a lot, although the high waistline is a little odd for me, simply because I am tall, and feel as if my small waist is in hiding (so I feel “larger” in the dress, though I am not, I know).  I love the colors. It is really comfortable too. Thanks Fleet!

I felt this dress needed a beehive to go with it.  In case you’re wondering how I did it, I just fooled around really.  For about 5 months I’ve been saving my hairs that I take out of my brush and been putting them in a hairnet.  I twisted the bottom half of my hair up, put it on top of my head (pinned about two bobby pins in), then put the net in there too (pinned it in).  I teased the front half of my hair and smoothed it over the net.  Then I twirled the bottom portion of that piece of hair and pinned it in (though in the pictures you might see a little portion was out of place, but you get the idea).

The ukulele. . I do know how to play about three songs on it & hope to learn more. The ukulele we own is not that great though.  Eventually we’ll get a better one.  It is still nice to practice on. Yesterday I started practicing how to play “Bizarre Love Triangle” by New Order (yet in the style of Frente’s version of it).  I was going to do a video of it until I saw this amazing version & thought mine was really awful in comparison.

  1. Your title captured my attention immediately, Victoria. I sing this song to myself all the time. Moon, June, Spoon, Croon, etc. Fun lyrics!

Love that Blondie song and that C.S. Lewis essay too. On teaching the boys, do you do a music component too? It might be fun to learn some songs on the uke to have them sing along to. (And you know how I feel about singing with/to the kids!)

    • I’m a big Doris Day fan. My favorite actress ever. . so yeah, I love that song!

I don’t think my brain is very good at comprehending CS Lewis. I have had some hard times with a few of his works now, including this one. :: sigh :: I must be a simple minded woman.

I teach the boys music theory. I haven’t thought of playing them “kid songs”. I hardly know how to play as it is, but I’ll see what I can do.

      • I agree about Day. She is so great in her movies and TV show. Did you know that when younger she was considered one of the top jazz singers before she switched into popular music with her movies?

      • Yes, she is my favorite actress. . .which means I have read everything I could get my hands on about her. haha. She had an accident that made dancing more of a struggle for her. She was going to be the next Ginger Rogers (which interestingly enough she was in a movie with her in time). I love her voice (jazz or not).

  2. Beautiful pictures Victoria! I love the shade of the dress with the deep color of your hair, a very pretty contrast!

  3. Classic! Simply classic! 🙂

Gwen loves ukeleles. My friend Lauren has one and brought it over one day and Gwen was entranced.

  4. Nice pics – a lovely prize that suits you. Good luck with the uke – I’ve been teaching myself for just over a year & it’s fun to play. Feel free to check out our club website (details in my signature block) for links to free on-line lessons, tips, songbooks & other resources.
    Happy strumming!

  5. Aw – I didn’t realize you played some uke too! It’s such a fun little instrument to pick up. I played mine yesterday for church – we opened with a cover of that song “Home” that is all over the place right now!

This is probably one of my favorite outfits of yours! You are such a classic beauty. Definitely quite a fantastic beehive. Now I only wish that my hair would cooperate enough to do the same thing.

    Happiest Monday! xo

    • Thank you! I’m sure your hair would do a fine job in a beehive. I don’t know if I know what this “Home” song is. Who performs it or who wrote it? That’s so cute that you play your ukulele at church! You must be good. I’m still a beginner.

  6. What a lovely dress! I love the photos! 🙂

  7. three songs is better than none, that’s awesome! and you look gorgeous here, the dress maybe is a tad babby in the waist as you say but you are so slim it just looks like a comfy fit and looks great. thank you so much for all your sweet comments lately by the way, I always love getting them : )

  8. Love ukes! There is a beautiful, famous cover of Somewhere Over the Rainbow that makes me tear up every time!
