Field Trip: Duke Farms

For our smallest homeschooling co-op, while it was nicer weather, we went on a field trip to a beautiful and fun place before being confined in for more class time.  Learning through going out to places sticks with kids.

Duke Farms is such a cool place!! They use so many neat forms of sustainability for their plants and water, as well as the energy use throughout their facilities.  There really were a lot of things to learn about while we were there, and we didn’t even get to see the half of it.  We walked a total of three miles out of the eighteen they have there.  They have bikes you can rent to use, an old farm house, meadows, habitats for wild animals, and some agricultural and horticultural fun.

I especially enjoyed going into the tropical greenhouse filled with orchids and plants that I had never seen or heard of before.

And a phone camera selfie with Maria!

  1. I also love the tropical greenhouse filled with orchids and plants. It is a sanctuary within a sanctuary. I was also very impressed with the innovative ways they are consciously doing their park in healing our environment.
